Director of Adult Audiology

The Director of Adult Audiology ensures the smooth running of the clinic to maximize efficiency and performance.  Responsible for the oversight and development of the Audiology clinic through tasks such as hiring, evaluating, scheduling and supervision. Coordinates with managers and directors of Audiology, Pediatric Care and Community Services to develop strategies for continued growth. Leads development of evidence-based, best practice diagnostic and rehabilitative protocols for adult patients.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates with Chief Audiology and Research Officer (CARO), to ensure an optimal protocol/algorithm is in place to guide the front office staff in the scheduling of new and existing patients. When the scheduling protocol does not clearly indicate how a patient should be scheduled into the clinic, the Director will assist the front office in determining how the patient should be scheduled and will also coordinate with other Clinic Managers to coordinate scheduling as needed.
  • Coordinates with Front Office to assure scheduling is timely and utilizes most appropriate Audiology resources.
  • Monitors Audiology clinic schedules with the goal of ensuring the clinic schedule is full and is functioning efficiently and effectively in a manner that optimally utilizes HFH resources and maximizes patient outcomes and provides regular reports to CARO regarding clinic schedule.  In conjunction with CARO, Creates and oversees a system that provides oversight of billing and coding for clinical services to ensure optimal revenue generation and appropriate and accurate reflection of services provided.
  • In conjunction with CARO, creates and oversees a system that ensures audiology clinic supplies and equipment are efficiently acquired, available and in good working order for the provision of patient care.
  • In conjunction with CARO, creates and oversees a system that monitors clinic and audiology provider productivity and patient outcomes.
  • In conjunction with CARO, creates and oversees a system for the management of electronic medical records system for areas related to Audiology Service.
  • Meets with Chief of Audiology & Research on a weekly basis to discuss Audiology Department needs and to provide updates on clinic efficiency and business.
  • Periodically meet with audiologists within the respective department to:
    • Offer support required for each audiologist to optimize her/his provision of clinical care and personal job satisfaction.
    • Provide feedback regarding job performance including acknowledgement of satisfactory work and areas in which room for improvement is possible.
    • Complete annual review to provide feedback regarding prior year, set goals for the upcoming year, and to identify areas in which support can be provided to optimize employee productivity and job satisfaction.
  • Maintains existing and cultivates new relationships related to audiology service provision in the metro communities.
  • Audiology Functions
    • Routine Diagnostic audiology including behavioral assessments of auditory function with standard procedures.
    • Physiological assessment of auditory function
    • Hearing aid selection, fitting, verification, and validation
    • Hearing screening and hearing conservation education
    • Educational audiology services and comprehensive consultation
    • Comprehensive tinnitus and sound sensitivity evaluations and treatment
    • Oversight of Vestibular clinic evaluations and treatment
    • Hearing conversation strategies and technology
  • Contributes to regularly scheduled clinic staffing with physician community partners.
  • Collaborates with the RAD  team to proactively fill direct- patient care time.
  • Calibrate and maintain personal and booth equipment, participate in clinic events (eg. fundraising), maintain infection control protocols, upkeep individual performance metrics spreadsheets, attend weekly audiology staffing and adult clinic meetings, maintain adult clinic tidiness and cleanliness in all spaces, attend manufacturer trainings as needed, and train and educate audiology students.
  • Physician outreach organize physician educational handouts and presentations, visit physician offices, and identify new physician offices to visit
  • Community outreach: lead health fair, senior center, and specialty groups (eg. Lion’s Club, YMCA, Engineers Club, etc.) presentations and hearing screenings and identify new community centers/groups to visit.
  • Implement clinical procedures and protocols, co-manage audiologist desired metrics, develop, and implement physician and community outreach, review audiologists’ time off requests, train and ensure job responsibility competency for newly hired audiologists, ensure staff and clinic efficiency, productivity, and culture align with Hearts for Hearing’s mission and values, and oversee successful completion of staff responsibilities.
  • Foster relationships with hearing technology manufacturers and vendors
  • Co-manages financial operations, including audiologist desired metrics and profit and loss statements.
  • Keep up to date with current audiologic research and business management practices.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctorate (clinical AuD or PhD) in audiology required.
  • Oklahoma State licensure in audiology required.
  • Certified in basic life support training required.
  • Excellent clinical skills and a passion to optimize listening of adults with hearing loss.
  • Solves problems with effective decisions and makes decisions in a timely manner.
  • Listens well and demonstrates excellent communication.
  • Uses problem solving skills to implement creative solutions when challenges arise.
  • Deals effectively with change and can function without knowing all answers.
  • Travels for conferences, training, in satellite locations or other actions requests by Chief of Audiology and Research
  • Strong work ethic and emphasis on attention to detail. Works with integrity and ethically.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
